Location
Located in a region of South-East QLD called the Southern Downs, Toowoomba is Queensland’s largest inland city. About 1.5hrs drive West from Brisbane CBD and 2hrs drive from the Gold Coast, with its own ‘Wellcamp Airport’ servicing domestic and select international flights, the city is conveniently accessible.
Situated almost 700m above sea level on the Great Dividing Range, the city experiences a more temperate climate to coastal regions of SE QLD and has four distinct seasons. Infrastructure projects completed in recent years mean that Toowoomba has great accessibility to the rest of Australia (and the world).
Toowoomba Bypass & second range crossing ($1.6b project finished 2019)
Wellcamp Airport offers regular domestic and a limited number of weekly international
passenger flights. It is also home to the Regional Trade Distribution Centre & Qantas Pilot Academy. The airport was the first major greenfield public airport project in Australia since the 1950s and is the first privately funded airport in the country.
Major Infrastructure Projects underway in Toowoomba
1.Ballie Henderson Hospital Precinct
Works for the new $1.3b hospital precinct have begun with expected completion in 2027. $17m upgrade to the existing Toowoomba Base Hospital Emergency Department is being constructed concurrently. This project is expected to bring more than 3,100 jobs during construction.
2.Inland rail
1,700km rail project connecting Melbourne → Brisbane is currently in construction with progress reaching the Growrie Plains/Toowoomba section of the railway. The railway will provide primarily freight transport with the potential for passenger trains in the future. This project is expected to bring >16,000 jobs to Toowoomba during its construction. Toowoomba to become major freight distribution centre upon completion.
